Whole plant: The Surinam Wayana swab the sap into the cavity of an aching tooth to relieve pain. Leaf: Decoction of crushed and boiled leaf is employed by the Surinam Tirio for a wash to treat stomachache.
Initially growing along the ground the plant has simple, deeply cordate leaves, typical for many species in Araceae. Under favorable conditions it may become a vigorous climber and the leaves become pamately to pedately divided. Inflorescences in pseudo-umbellate clusters, whitish.
