Arundo is a genus of stout, perennial plants in the grass family.
Arundo is native to southern Europe, North Africa, and much of temperate Asia as far east as Japan.[3] They grow to 3–6 m tall, occasionally to 10 m, with leaves 30–60 cm long and 3–6 cm broad.

Tall, rhizomatous, perennial reeds. Leaves cauline: ligule membranous with minutely ciliate margin. Panicle large, plumose Spikelets with the lowermost floret bisexual; glumes as long as spikelet, 3-5-nerved, lemmas plumose below middle, membranous, 3-7-nerved; apex entire or 2-dentate with a small straight awn.
