1.1 Descripción de la especie
Culmos erectos o geniculados, de 0.7 a 1 m de longitud, delgados, nudos de los tallos puberulentos. Vainas glabras o con pelos básales papilosos. Lígulas en forma de anillo de pelos de 0.5 a 1 mm de longitud. Láminas foliares angostas, planas o conduplicadas, de 8 a 18 cm de longitud, de 2 a 5 mm de ancho. Inflorescencia una panícula piramidal de 8 a 15 cm de longitud, con ramas primarias erectas y extendidas y ramificaciones capilares, pedicelos cortos de 0.6 a 5.3 mm pero generalmente curvados con presencia de pocos vellos finos cerca del ápice. Espiguilla ovadas, de 3.5 a 6 mm de longitud (incluyendo la pubescencia), rojizas, rosadas o blanco-plateado, los pedicelos capilares, flexuosos o curvos. Glumas primera gluma de 1 mm de longitud, vilosa, segunda gluma y lema de la flor estéril iguales, de 3.5 mm de longitud, plateado-vilosas con pelos finos, emarginados o ligeramente lobadas, diminutamente aristadas. Lemas lema inferior de 1.9 a 4.8 mm, glabra, brillosa, fina y punteada de 2 a 2.5 mm de longitud. Páleas de la flor estéril bien desarrollada, más angosta que la lema. Cariópsis de 1.3 a 1.9 mm de largo y de 0.6 a 0.9 mm de ancho, seco, de color gris o café, superficie con abundantes pelos hirsutos. Flor anteras 3 de 1.2 a 1.7 mm, de color naranja o café-naranja (Cantú-Brito, 2006; Rzedowski &Rzedowski, 2001).
