Description
Snail shell 4 x 6 cm. Aperture is 2.5 cm across. Identified from the excellent book by Jacobson & Emerson (1961) Shells of the New York City Area, under the name Viviparous malleata. Also appears frequently with the genus name Bellamya. A favorite species for Chinese cuisine in China and USA was probably source of introduction. Now very abundant in Vischer Ferry Reserve NY and widespread in freshwater
