Description | Introduced, yearlong-green, perennial, erect, tufted, slender grass to 70 cm tall; stolons are rare. Leaves are dull or blue-green, often tinged purple. A native of South Africa, it is an uncommon weed found on low fertility, sandy soils in lower rainfall areas on the Tablelands; often in disturbed bushland, naturally open vegetation and on roadsides. Moderately useful pasture species on light soils of low fertility and rainfall between 330 and 760 mm further west. Has moderate frost tolerance, with main production in spring and early summer. Requires rotational grazing to persist. Seeds prolifically and can be a minor weed of sandstone and granite bushland areas. |
