These little 10-15mm blossoms are blooming along trails through the Florida scrub now. They are visited by a surprising variety of very tiny bees and flies. Like many members of the figwort family, they are root parasites of other plants. The S. pectinata I've seen were growing by scrub oaks on ancient dunes, mostly without any pines. Juno Dunes Natural Area (south section), Palm Beach County, Florida. (This genus is now considered a member of the family Orobanchaceae).
