Invasive Alien Species: the Urban Dimension. Strengthening local action in Europe’s urban areas

Thursday, September 5, 2013 (All day)

A one-day conference organised by the IUCN in Gland, Switzerland.

The conference will gather representatives from different European countries to tackle the challenges related to invasive alien species in Europe’s urban areas. Local and regional authorities can play a key role in helping address the risks associated with biological invasions and can contribute to raising awareness among decision-makers and citizens. The conference will bring together European, national and local governmental representatives as well as experts and NGOs to exchange knowledge and best practices on solutions to reduce the impacts of invasive species in urban areas. It will serve as a forum for competent authorities in Europe to be better informed about invasive alien species and the current state of the art of scientific knowledge and expertise. Examples of local action in urban areas will be presented to foster exchange and mutual learning in Europe.
