Hierba.
Hierba entre 0,3 y 1.2 m. de altura. Tallitos y hojas generalmente hirsuto a vilosos.
Hojas entre 1,5 y 23 cm. de largo y entre 0,5 y 7 cm. de ancho, de espatuladas a elípticas, en ocasiones basales en rosetas. Inflorescencia terminales, en panícula-corimbosas, glomérulos con aproximadamente 40 cabezuelas, pedunculados y subtendido por 2 o 3 bráctea ovadas y foliáceae, hasta de 2 cm. Cabezuelas discoides, con brácteas involucrales más largas hasta 7.5 mm. de largo. Flores entre 3 y 4 mm. de largo, de blancas a rosadas. Aquenios entre 1,9 y 2,7 mm. largo, estrigosos; vilano entre 5 y 11 aristas. Elephantopus mollis se distingue por ser una hierba con tallitos fistulosos, generalmente vilosos, hojas casi siempre espatuladas, en ocasiones arrosetadas, inflorescencias paniculadas, con cabezuelas en glomérulos pedunculados y subtendidos por 2 o 3 bráctea foliáceae, capítulos discoides y por sus aquenios con un vilano compuesto de aristas setáceas.Possible type for Elephantopus martii Graham
